Our Invitations |
||||||
| Twenty Questions (Also known as Animal, Vegetable, Mineral?) | ||||||
| This party guessing game can be played as a group, or as individuals, or in teams. For parties, team play is probably best. One person thinks of an object or thing, for example TREE, and tells the other players what category the object belongs in. In this example, TREE is vegetable. The others in the game then try to guess what the object is by asking questions that can only be answered with yes or no. Variations on this game can include allowing up to a certain number of questions to guess the object, points for correct or closest guesses at the end of that number of questions, and a fun prize for the team with the most points at the end of the game. | ||||||
| Word Chains | Fairy Invitations |
|||||
| A category is selected (sports, celebrites, cartoon characters, movies, countries or similar), then those playing the game name words in that category. The catch is, that the word you name must start with the last letter in the previous players word. For example if the category is countries of the world, a chain might run Japan, New Zealand, Denmark, Kenya, Australia. Scoring options are possible. In one variation, Alphabet word chains, you name words in alphabetical order, for example Australia, Bolivia, Canada, Denmark, England | ||||||

||||||
| TAG | ||||||
| One of the best things about tag as a party game is that it gets all the little ones tired out and ready to either eat or sleep! There are many variations on the game of tag. A selection are here, however many people add rules to suit the occasion. Tag can be played indoors, however is probably best suited to outdoors. If playing outdoors, adult supervision is wise. | ||||||

||||||
| Standard Tag | ||||||
The player who is IT closes their eyes and counts down from an agreed number, while the other players spread out. IT then chases down the other players, attempting to tag them. Some variations have the tagged player then becoming it, while others have the tagged player joining IT, and helping to tag the others. Winner is the last person not IT. |
||||||
|
||||||
| Shadow Tag | ||||||
| People are tagged by IT stepping on their shadow. | ||||||
| Freeze Tag | Boys Party Invitations |
|||||
| In yet another variation, there are several players initially designated as IT. those tagged have to freeze on the spot, hands on hips, legs apart. The other players not tagged are able to free the frozen person by crawling under the arch of their legs. The goal is for those playing as it to freeze all the other players. | ||||||
| Circle Tag | ||||||
| The children all sit (or stand) in a circle. One child “IT” walks slowly around the outside of the circle, building suspense. The child on the outside will tap ONE child as they pass by. This child must then chase “IT” around the outside of the circle. If the tapped child catches and tags “IT” before IT gets around the circle and jumps into the empty space , then “IT” remains it, and walks around the circle again to try again. If “IT” reaches the empty space in the circle without being tagged, the child that chased unsuccessfully becomes “IT” and must walk around the circle, to tap the next person. Then the chase is on again! Great game to tire the kids out! | ||||||
| Hospital Tag | ||||||
| When someone is tagged, and they become IT, they must chase after their fellow players with an “injury”, that is, with one hand holding the place they were tagged by IT. | ||||||
Disco Invitations |
||||||
| Chain Tag. | ||||||
| With a larger number of players, several are designated IT. These players join arms or hold hands to form a chain. Their job is to capture or tag the other players. These players then join the chain. This fun game ends when all players are part of the chain. | ||||||
First Year Invitations |
||||||
| Ball Tag. | ||||||
| As per standard Tag, however using a ball. For little children, a beach ball is a great way to play this game. Older children may prefer a soft tennis ball. | ||||||
| Torch or Flashlight Tag Great game for night time parties and sleepovers. IT looks for the other players and Tags them with the torch beam. Variations can include all those caught being sent to a holding area or made to stay in place with the winner being the last one not caught. Alternatively the person tagged can become IT. |
||||||
| Capture the Flag Tag | ||||||
| Divide the players into two teams. This game is best played in a larger area, preferably with rome to run around in. Parks are great, but remember to supervise. The playing area is divided into two equal parts. Each team has an object that is designated as the flag. Figure out a way to mark the teams apart caps/no caps , boys vs girls, armbands, ribbons in belts or similar. Each team has to hide the flag somewhere in its territory, usually at the back, near its prison or jail. The aim of the game is to cross over into the other teams territory and get their flag, and bring it back to your home. If you are tagged while in the other teams territory, you are captured and must go to their jail. If you are in jail you can be freed by being tagged by another member of your team. If you are tagged while carrying the flag you must drop it where you are tagged and go to jail. | ||||||

||||||
| Chase the tail or Dragons Tail | ||||||
| Ideal for parties of 16 persons and up. The idea is to form chains of people. The person at the front of each chain becomes the “Head” , with the person at the rear the “Tail” This person has a piece of cloth, or teatowl “tail” hanging from their belt. At the signal to begin, the “Heads” try to take the “tails” off the other chains. The people at the tail end try to avoid the heads. Everyone in the middle of the chains has to hang on and not let the chain break. If your tail is stolen or your chain breaks, your team is out of the game. | ||||||
| Girls Party Invitations | ||||||
| Whats the time Mister Wolf? | ||||||
| This game is great for ages 4 to about 8 or so. One player is Mister Wolf, while the rest get to ask the time. Mister Wolf stands at one end of a hall or room or open space, with the others at the other end. The first child asks the question "Whats the time Mister Wolf?"..The Wolf then gets to choos an answer. It can be anywhere from one o'clock to twelve o'clock. Whatever the hour the wolf calls out, that is the number of steps the player must take towards the wolf. They can be big steps or small steps. The next player asks the same question and also stps forward as directed....gradually the players get closer and closer to the Wolf....the suspension builds...When the Wolf is ready he or she may answer the question "Whats the Time? " with a gleeful yell of..."LUNCH TIME!!" ...this is the cue for the Wolf to chase down the players who run screaming away from the wolf...and catch one, for "lunch". This player then becomes the wolf for the next game. | ||||||
| Dodge Ball A very popular game for kids of all ages. Basic rules stand that one person throws the ball at the other players, who are then eliminated from the game, or join the throwers. Variations can include circle dodge ball, with the throwers on the line of the circle and the other players inside the circle. For littlies a beach ball is best. |
||||||
| Kickball. If you can imagine a game of baseball or softball with no bat, and substituting a soccer ball or similar for the baseball, then you get the idea of what this game is about. Two teams, one fielding, one kicking. Everyone gets a kick! The pitcher rolls the ball gently to the kicker, who after kicking has to run to first base. The other rules can vary to suit the ages of those playing, but follow baseball and softball closely. |
||||||
Superhero Invitations |
||||||
| Backyard Cricket/Soccer/Footy The rules to these games vary from pitch to pitch. They have been listed here as reminders only of old favourites that we forget we played when we were kids. Remember, if the ball goes over the fence on the full, or on the roof, or the neighbours dog eats it, you’re out! |
||||||
| Treasure Hunt or Scavenger Hunt | ||||||
| Can be tailored to your party theme. Hide different items, either as prizes or as part of a list. If its a list the first to complete is the winner. If you are hiding prizes, play till they are all found. This game can be played individually or in teams of players. Make sure theres enouge to share, and that some prizes get "found" by the smaller or less able players. | ||||||
| Hide and Seek Players agree on a home base and the playing area boundaries before beginning. Pick one person to seek, while the rest will hide. The seeker shuts his eyes and counts from one to 50. When finished counting, let fly with the age old cry of “ready or not, here I come”. The seeker then tries to find the hiders. If found the hiders must run to home base without being tagged. At any time while the seeker is seeking the hiders can try to get to home base without being tagged. The winner is either the first hider to get to home base without being tagged, or the last hider hiding without being found. |
||||||
Babies Invitations |
||||||
| Variations Hide and Seek – SARDINES As per hide and seek the boundaries of the playing area are set. This one is ideal for a park setting. The sardine is chosen , while all the rest of the players close their eyes and count to 50. The players then look for the sardine. If you see the sardine, the aim is not to alert anyone to the sardines location, but to hide with them. Soon, less and less people are looking and eventually the whole party has disappeared, except for the last seeker, who sonn will find the whole group hiding together, packed in like sardines. |
||||||
| Races, lots of fun for parties and fetes. | ||||||
| Great for Dads and Sons race, fathers and sons, mums or mothrs and daughters race ore even brothers and sisters races. These can even be relay races. Please note the emphasis for these races should always be fun. Its not really about who can run the fastest, but silly fun and happy fun and smiles. | ||||||
| Three Legged Race | ||||||
| Stand the racers together. Tie the middle legs together. Ready steady go! | ||||||
| Egg and Spoon Race | ||||||
| For extra excitement use raw eggs. Otherwise hard boiled eggs are reccomended | ||||||
| Wheelbarrow Race | ||||||
| Either use real wheelbarrows or one racer holds the legs of the other, who "rolls" using their hands. Swap places on the return leg. | ||||||
| Water filled balloon race. | ||||||
| Fill balloons with water. One person throws to the other. Each time a successful catch is made without the balloon breaking , that person takes a step backwards. Winner is the team who can throw a water balloon furthest without bursting it. Great on hot days, but have plenty of spare water filled ballons available for the spectators. | ||||||
Name Invitations |
||||||
| Sack Race. | ||||||
| Each racer gets into a sack. Then race over any nominated course. Best fun is to break this up into teams, of three or more over a round course, for example a front yard, back yard, or around the goal posts and back again (for all those AFL footy party people out there!) | ||||||
| All of the above involve a start, a finish and a minimum of two participants per team. Accessories are minimum. If the racers are obviously mismatched, you can even agree to give weaker racers a head start. A great idea is to give a few prizes, one for first, one for funniest race, and one for most effort, for example. | ||||||
| Wink (or Sudden Death or Assassin) | Angel Invitations |
|||||
| More suitable for older children and teenagers. This game can be played with all players sitting in a circle, facing one another, or over the course of an evening, as people move around. Cut up one piece of paper into smaller pieces, one for each player. One of these pieces will have an X marked on it. Each player picks a piece of paper from a bowl or hat, and the person who picks the piece with an X on it is IT. IT then casually goes about eliminating the other players by winking at them. If you are winked at, wait a short while, or react immediately, its up to you. You are then ‘out” or “dead”, hopefully with lots of funny dying antics. If you leave it a bit longer before keeling over it makes it harder for the other players to work ut who IT is. The remaining players are trying to work out who the assassin is before its too late. If you think you know who it is, you can accuse someone at any time, however you are wrong, you are out of the game. |

This child then walks back to the team, and the next child has a turn. The first team to have a complete face wins, and we all have a giggle at some very silly faces. | ||||||
| Musical Chairs You will need chairs, enough for all the children, but one less. Music. |
||||||

The children must do this action, but only if it begins with “Simon says” If there is no “Simon Says” before an action, the children should ignore it. If a child does the action, but there was no Simon Says, the child is “out”. (for younger children you can ignore this rule) |
||||||
Photo Invitations |
||||||
| Treasure Hunt There are many rules for treasure hunts. A favourite is lollies, but you can use fruit wrapped in foil, or plastic tokens (“pieces of gold”) that the children can redeem for treats. To play treasure hunt, while all the children are inside and cannot see the game being set up, a grown up must hide the treats around the backyard (or park) . This one is usually good for about 15 to 20 minutes, depending on the number of treats per child to be found. Don’t forget to make some easy and some a little harder. |

| Pass the parcel For this game you will need lots of wrapping or butchers paper. A number of small treats (one for each child). Music. Wrap a parcel into layers, and between each layer place one treat. Sit the children in a circle, and start the music. While the music is playing, the children pass the parcel around. When the music stops, the child who is holding the parcel gets to unwrap one layer, leading to a treat. The music then starts again, and the parcel is passed around again. Don’t forget to stop once at each child! |
||||||
| Telephone Call or “Whispers” Sit the children in a circle. An adult whispers a phrase into one childs ear. This child then whispers to the next child what they heard. This continues around the circle, and the last child tells the group what they heard, and compares it to the first phrase. Always brings a hearty chuckle! |
